These wild turkeys were in the yard when I got home today.  I only managed a photo shot when they'd started down the sidewalk.  It's common to see them out in farm fields around here but kind of odd to see them in a suburban yard.

They must feel safe because they aren't on the Christmas dinner menu.

We get them around here and we're an urban area, though not like bustling downtown Manhattan urban or anything. I put up a portrait of one I caught windowshopping a while back:

I sort of like them, though I think they puzzle the dog.

Your turkey picture is awesome with the tail feathers partly opened like that. It's fun to see them where you don't expect them.

It's always interesting to see other people's wildlife! Where I live it's mostly kangaroos.

What is it like having kangaroos as neighbors? Do they keep to themselves? I've only ever seen one in a zoo. We have some wildlife like raccoons that are cute but can carry disease and get into your garbage or wreck your garden so it's with mixed feelings that I see them.

They're mostly benign, but there are so many in my area that they eat a lot of the feed in the paddocks that I'd rather was available to my other animals! I would see at least 20 and sometimes 50 grazing in my paddocks most evenings.

They also kill themselves getting stuck in the fences from time to time, which is terrible for them and unpleasant for me. They're a big problem on the roads, too.

I posted some photos of some small ones at the bottom of this post last year.

They sound like deer here. They eat in the farmers' fields and get hit on the roads a lot. All the pictures in that post are really great. The alpacas are adorable.

They're totally flaunting it! :P

I see you've still got a lot of snow!

Wild turkeys are something you'd never see here. We do have one of the biggest turkey farms though. So unless they escape....

Yup, still snow here and cold. It melted a bit and refroze so it's not quite so pretty but still very white.
