Looks like Kripke finally gets to use Zeppelin songs in an episode of one of his shows.  Sorry Dean, looks like someone else's apocalypse gets to use Kashmir.  It's a bigger budget end of the world and it's timed better.  I'm sure Kripke is gleeful.

NBC's 'Revolution' Snares Led Zeppelin Songs

Oh well, we'll always have Kansas (and AC/DC and Air Supply).

I watch and enjoy Revolution. As soon as I heard Zeppelin I felt a warm feeling for Kripke. I knew he must have wet himself when he finally realized he'd ascended to the big leagues and a show that could afford the impossibly pricey Zep! Good for the Krip!

I haven't seen it yet. I pretty much have time for one show but I hope Zeppelin suits it. It was kind of like Kripke's stars all aligned.

Glad for him too, and yet I had a flash of momentary anger, that SPN wasn't able to get all the music they wanted/deserved due to not being in the big leagues. Ah well.

That was pretty much my initial reaction too. Sometimes I think SPN is lucky to fly below the big network radar though. I think they get away with things that might not be possible with more attention.

A show has exclusive right to any one song then?

/is clueless.

I watched Revolution up to ep 6 but ... I'm dropping it. But don't let that stop you from watching it later on! I know plenty of people who love it but it's just not for me. I stayed that long because I was hoping that it'd get better but nope, it didn't happen :/

Shows using music have to pay the band royalties to use their songs and have to get permission from whoever holds the copyright, in most cases the artist. Led Zeppelin is really protective of their stuff and have only let it be used in pretty specific cases. They have a DVD and some sort of album coming out in a couple of weeks. They are letting Revolution use their music because it will get them exposure when they are trying to promote something. They are working with Revolution because it has a big enough budget to afford the royalties plus it gets them the audience they want to sell their stuff. They went with an NBC show because the big parent company for the network and the one handling distribution are both Warner. Warner has a stake in the CW too but Supernatural has a much smaller budget and not as many viewers so it's not likely they'd get a Zeppelin song. I guess the Zep song is going to run in ads for Revolution so a lot more NBC viewers will see it than just Revolution viewers. That's probably more than you wanted to know but I tend to ramble on....
