SPN 11.01 - random pie sighting

I have to preface this by saying I was stuck with subtitles for the second half so I'm going to have to watch it again. But at least the first part seemed very hinky. Sam just happened to walk to Dean's body in a flowered field a mile from the car where he disappeared? I know these guys are fixated on each other but that was a bit much. If you vanished from the car we were sitting in and then reappeared, I probably would be a bit suspicious about whether you were actually you knowing what these guys know about how wrong things can go. Sam didn't seem too concerned.

Really random stuff---

The cop kid reminded me of the gal that played Eve.

Amara means bitter or sour in Latin and eternal in Greek.

The baby was wearing pink and flowers.

The decor in the 70s house was accurately horrifying. It was missing frogs and mushrooms but had the rest of it.

There was pie on the wall of the mart behind Dean while he was talking with Sam on the phone

Dean, just because the Darkness has a matching tattoo doesn't mean you should go steady with her. Just sayin'.

I'll watch again tomorrow and probably feel differently about it then. I'm going to have to look up the quote about joy in the morning.

Oh nice pick up with the pie!

Also - in the 70s house that very weird light/wall fitting that was seen in "Crossroad blues" and then "What Is..." was used. I'm not sure it's exactly the same but as soon as I saw it I was - "i've seen that before!". Also the silver lamp stand (from quite a few eps actually). If I had time I'd update my prop usage post.

Sam finding Dean straight away was well weird - considering how many directions he could have gone. I'm going to assume he looked all over the place first and then we just picked up in when he found him. *nods*

I looked up "joy in the morning". It's a book from Wodehouse. But also from Psalm 30:

Weeping may spend the night,
but there is joy in the morning.

Not sure the boys will ever find joy to be honest. Far too much pain. But maybe it refers to the darkness as night and once it's defeated there will be light once again. Or something...

I enjoyed the episode very much. There were some holes, but I enjoy the action and "28 days later" feel about it.

Hah, no wonder this show airs at night. ;-) That wall ornament thing from the 70s house is crazy. I don't remember it but it sounds like they've had it for a long time and used it in the early seasons. I didn't pay much attention back then. Ghastly to think someone has actually had it since it was stolen from the office of the head of a Psych department in 1973 as a prank during Rush Week. He never got over the loss......

I'm hoping I enjoy this more on a rewatch. It was interesting to find out how much the actual sound matters with voice and music cues to help make sense of everything.

I'll be keen to know what you thought on second viewing. Or rather, what wasn't working for you. Just curious (I know there were a few holes).

I put a comment about the rewatch on your episode post. It's been interesting to see the different responses to this episode,

Love your pick-up on the pie!

Sam finding Dean in the field reminded me a bit of the flashback scene at the end of Heartache in s.8, where Sam is looking for Amelia with the birthday cake - pink flowers across Dean's face v. pink flowers on a dress.

Yes to the similarity with Amelia and the birthday cake. When that happened, with the way they shot it with the super bright colors and lighting, I thought it was a dream sequence with Amelia and didn't think it was real. I think maybe that's why this feels off or slightly unreal. There was one season where flowers were around every time something bad happened so that's not really reassuring either.
