My favorite season is season 2.  It starts with my favorite episode, In My Time of Dying, and the season arc is a good one all the way through. All Hell Breaks Loose is a heck of a finale any show would be proud of.  I really like how Sam and Dean get along and are there for each other even though there are the usual secrets kept and the occasional shooting.  We also get to see a lot more of what makes the boys tick and what made them who they are.  I love the introduction of the roadhouse and other hunters, particularly Ellen.

Harvelle's Roadhouse

Jo

Ellen

We were introduced to some other memorable characters that we got to know pretty well.

Ash

Andy

Ava

The Trickster

Madison

Azazel

Tessa

Gordon

Henrickson

We also got some interesting characters that we didn't get to know quite as well.

We had the glory that was the shenanigans in Tall Tales.

The car was Back in Black.

I said back, didn't I?

We got to truly appreciate the beauty of Vancouver.

Wait, whut?

Dean spent some time in a dream world and we all realized that our color TV had been working after all.

He spent some time with his mom.

And lawyer!Sam.

And then the real Sam found him.

Sam and Dean looked after each other.

Sam had moments he'd rather have forgotten if only his brother would let him.

Dean was shameless.

Dean looked adorable…he told us so.

Sam, for all that he's a competent hunter who's seen what's really in the dark, looked young, innocent and lost.

That innocence was getting pretty battered by the end of the season.

Dean: I'll tell you who else had faith like that — Mom. She used to tell me when she tucked me in that angels were watching over us. In fact, that was the last thing she ever said to me.  She was wrong. There was nothing protecting her. There's no higher power, there's no God. I mean, there's just chaos, and violence, and random unpredictable evil that comes out of nowhere and rips you to shreds. You want me to believe in this stuff? I'm going to need to see some hard proof. You got any?

Sam: I don't know, Dean, I just . . . (he sits on the bed) I wanted to believe, so badly. It's so damn hard to do this, what we do. All alone, you know? There's so much evil out there in the world, Dean, I feel like I could drown in it. And when I think about my destiny, when I think about how I could end up,
Dean: (sitting on the bed beside him) Yeah, well, don't worry about that. All right? I'm watching out for you.
Sam: Yeah, I know you are. But you're just one person, Dean. And I needed to think that there was something else watching too, you know? Some higher power. Some greater good. And that maybe . . .
Dean: Maybe what?
Sam: Maybe I could be saved.

Meg snuck in.

Sam met Madison.

The season was emotionally tough for Sam and Dean, as well for us watching.  We saw Sam cry.

Dean didn't…..

…until he did.

And then we all did.

Her kiss must have tasted like sulfur and ashes.

This is my favorite scene with Dean and Bobby.

The mission that John set out for the boys was accomplished with blood, sweat, tears, the Colt and awesome CGI.

But at what cost?  Dean's got a year and a tagged soul and Sam's innocence has been shot to Hell.

We've got work to do.

Most caps from Home of the Nutty.

Wonderful recap. :)

My favourite season has always been a toss up between this one and season 4. Like you say, the arc is a good one all the way through and we really do get to know so many great characters...and some terrific Sam and Dean moments.

So many great episodes but my absolute favourite is Born Under a Bad Sign. Fantastic acting from Jared as possessed sexy as hell Sam. The shock at seeing Sam knocking Dean out in the hotel room and then finding out a bit more about demonic possession. And there's Bobby. Love it XD

I think Bad Sign was the first chance Jared really got to play not!Sam. He rocked it.

There was a lot I had forgotten until I went to snag the caps. I'll have to do a rewatch one of these years.

Oh, lovely post. I especially like all the outdoor scenery caps (not counting the sunset!).

They shoot in such gorgeous places. I love the one with the boys walking behind the long grass. I forget how muted the color was in the early seasons. It's got it's own kind of beauty.
